How Butterfly Valve works?

How does Butterfly Valve work?

The butterfly valve has a similar function to ball valves. The “butterfly” is a disk attached to a rod. The disk rotates back to allow the flow, hence opening the valve. Butterfly valves are light-weighted, low at cost, have a small installation footprint, and are available in very large sizes. These valves are operated by handles, gears, or automation actuators.

Types of Butterfly Valve

Butterfly valves come in various designs, each with a specific application and pressure ranges. These valves can be characterized based on connection design, disc closure design, and actuation method. Disc Closure Design and Connection Design are the main types of butterfly valves.

Application of Butterfly Valve

Butterfly valves are used in several industries and applications such as pharmaceutical, water supply, food, wastewater treatment, fire protection, gas supply, and fuel handling. Available in large sizes, these valves are appropriate to be used in handling slurries and liquids and are available in large sizes.

The difference between Ball Valve and Butterfly Valve

A butterfly valve is economical, easy to install, and has a small connection footprint. Ball valves are supportive for high-pressure small diameter applications as it’s well suited for higher discrepancy pressures.
